Ecology Review

Today you received a Unit 1 Ecology Review packet! Because it has been so long since we have talked about ecology, I strongly recommend working through the packet and making sure you understand the concepts. Below is a completed copy of the packet, in case you get stuck or if you would like to check your answers.

Behavioral and Physiological Responses and Positive and Negative Feedback Mechanisms to maintain homeostasis

Whew.  That was a long title.

Today we are learning about how organisms can choose actions to help maintain homeostasis (behavioral responses) and about how their bodies do this automatically (physiological responses).  Additionally, some responses represent negative feedback loops, keeping conditions constant, and sometimes there are positive feedback loops where reactions build and grow constantly (unusual for homeostasis!).

Here are today's notes.  Here is the powerpoint.

Oh, and a video to help explain feedback loops:

Blood Sugar Regulation

You're not you when you're hungry, eat a snickers!

Today we learned about one of the body's ways of maintaining homeostasis: Blood Sugar Regulation. By the end of class, you should understand and be able to describe the diagram below.

Below are copies of the cornell notes, both blank and complete. Homework is to write the questions and summaries on both sides of the notes!
